I look forward to reading the replies, as you say by reading the Bible alone without the thoughts of others you come to a different understanding as far as what the WTS teach.

i just wondered about this, because in rev.
7:9, it speaks of the great crowd and in verse 14 and says that these are the ones that came out of the great tribulation.
verse 15 further states that they are before the throne of god, serving him day and night in his temple.

do you remember years ago this was mentioned among the brothers in conversations about elders?
yet i cannot ever recall being directed to a scripture which proved all elders were appointed by holy spirit.
it seems that everyone just accepted that they were, including myself , and yet how is this possible considering how many i've seen were corrupt when appointed.. any others think about this when in the org
As you say there is no scripture that directly says this, the way they say they are appointed by holy spirit, is that the Bible was written by means of it, and therefore the qualifications set out there in. But as you know its easy to be a white washed grave!

the story goes that god provided the rainbow as a symbol of his promise to never again destroy the world by flood.. noah and his family saw the rainbow after they left the ark.
after the waters had receeded.
after it had stopped raining for months.... yet a rainbow is simply sunlight spread out into its spectrum of colors and diverted to the eye of the observer by water droplets.
One question I could never answer re: the flood, by a study, was how did the animals cross the continents? Say a kangaroo? How come they only live on one continent? Did they go back to where they came from? How did they get there? The only answer I could find from the society was continental ridges - which sounds very far fetched to me.

jws have their own terminology.
it's a characteristic of a cult.
here's a few: "new system", the friends" and the "body".......can you think of more?
It was mentioned before but I had to say it again as i used the term on my ex wife who is a JW. We were arguing and she accused me of being cagey about some information, and imediately i said i'm just using 'theocratic warfare' on you, as I dont feel you entitled to know the information!

we all pretty well understand that the wts tells jws that bing on the internet is dangerous to their spiritual standing because people on the net are controlled by satan
but... maybe there is a second reason.we also know that the wts believes if people read the wt literature they will come to the wrong conclusions.
people require someone to sit with them and read every paragraph of a wt book to make sure they understand the book in the right way.we know the website for the wts is pretty sanitized so people don't run off too quicklywe know there is no place on the wts' website for discussion.
What your saying is that they will only talk to people if they do it by their rules, in the safety of an environment they create. As you say they simply walk away when the going gets tough as their minds have been conditioned to act by their leaders.
How many of us would admit to being stumbled by someone who has a genuine argument on the doors, saying we will research and come back, only to shut our minds to it and never return, because they are 'trying to weaken our faith'.

a funny thing happened at the office.
with my current job i look after a team of commission based sales people (about 400 so i dont know them all intimately).
one of these sales people in a remote town started cheating the company by applying staff discounts to people who werent staff and trying to claim promotional benefits for promotions he didnt do etc.
That is a great story! And its reminded me of one that happened in my family.
My dad was sales manager and had a witness elder from my old congregation in his team. Anyway the company got taken over and a shake up was occuring and a very critical eye was put on the sales team. So my dad's boss asks about the elders sales figures and why they are low (lol sounds like ministry reports!) And instead of letting my dad speak with him, this guy follows the elder and finds that he goes down the pub for extended lunch break's and has him fired! Justice indeed. except he wont be shunned by other members of that company!

i knew many of them.
some in my own family.
they were the ones considered spiritually weak because they:
My own experience being someone who struggled to do all we were told to is that the ongoing day to day things were tough, but if you had a black and white (in WTS view) issue that you didnt face everyday some sort of automatic reaction got you to be all hard core. Another thing I remember is that I would resent other people getting away with things when I knew I wished I could but didnt have the bottle to do so at the time.

do jw's elders report other elders for wrongdoing or do they sweep it under the carpet?
i remember there was a elder in my old cong that did not like another elder.
he would always bad-mouth this particular elder in field service.
Neighbour congregation to the one I attended, had some of my family in it. The original PO was brought down by another Elder who got asigned to replace him. It was over the original PO's child getting into mischief, and being hidden.
I also remember an Elder saying to me - a baptised publisher at the time - that another Elder wasn't taking the lead going out on the field service and that he was going to have a word.

just wanted opinions regarding having arguments.
my usual take on someone i love wronging me is to be forgiving and not argue about it.
i wondering if thats not the most healthy way of dealing with matters.
Well I just got back from the pending arguement that I was probably alluding to. Its amazing how good you feel after clearing the air about stuff. I have always in the past tended to shy away from saying how I felt about a situation, which has meant i've never addressed lots of things over that time. Since I have left the WTS I have steadily been maturing beyond that state that I was held in for so long, and it feels wonderful!!!
Anyway the upshot is that things have been cleared up, and the motive has been to sort it out and move on, not simply win. In fact we are both winners!

i read in a recent post that this was the case.
then i went and checked out the first topics- totally right- simon had actually removed a topic for being apostate-sympathizing.
too weird!
Just wanted to use this Topic to say a big thank you to Simon for starting this place up, and how useful its been to me.
